What We Believe
Beliefs of Capital City Baptist Church
About the Bible
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, absolute authority in all matters. God has preserved His Word throughout all of time. The preserved Word of God for English speakers is the King James Bible.
– 2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 5:18, Psalm 12:6-7
About God
The God of the Bible is the one and only true God. God is one, consisting of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
– Matthew 28:19, I John 5:7, Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:26
About Creation
The God of the Bible is the Creator of heaven, earth, and the entire universe. He spoke everything into existence out of nothing, creating it in six, 24-hour days. All events in Scripture are scientifically accurate and correct. Because He is man’s Creator, every person is accountable to God.
– Colossians 1:14-18, Ephesians 3:9, Psalm 90:2, Genesis 1:1
About Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and therefore is eternal and not a created being. He became man, miraculously born of a virgin, to redeem mankind from sin. He lived a perfect, sinless life, performed many literally recorded miracles, and fulfilled prophecy. His death on the cross, as our substitute, paid the price for our salvation. He physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will visibly return to rule and judge all mankind.
– Titus 2:13, 1 Timothy 6:14-16, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Philippians 2:10-11
About Salvation
The only way to have your sins forgiven, have peace with God, and be eternally saved, is when we as repentant sinners put our faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. This spiritual “new birth” is a miracle of new life, wrought by the Holy Spirit, and is a once in a a life-time event. Man can do nothing to obtain salvation, for it is only by God’s grace. It is available to anyone willing to receive Jesus Christ.
– Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12, Acts 20:21
It is impossible for a genuinely saved person to ever lose their salvation or walk away from it. A person who is born again is eternally secure through God’s power.
– 1 Peter 1:5, John 10:28-29, Romans 8:37-39, 1 John 5:13
About the Believer
Every born-again believer is indwelled, sealed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. A saved person will have a growing desire to live holy (separated unto God).
– Titus 2:11-12, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 3:20, I John 3:3, I Peter 1:14-16
About Separation
It is God’s will for every saved person to live a life that is pleasing in His sight, and demonstrates His character and values as revealed in the Bible. This includes areas like marriage, music, dress, entertainment, addictions, and all aspects of morality. It means to not get involved in the sinful activities and self-centred attitude of the world that rejects God.
For our own protection, God wants Christians, as individuals and as a church, to separate (stay away) from false doctrines, false teachers, and any activity or association that would misrepresent Christ and bring shame to His holy name. In the Bible, God describes how a Christian can live a blessed, joyful life in close fellowship with God by following His standards in every area of life. We reject any form of self-righteous hypocrisy or unbiblical compromise.
– 11 Peter 1:15-16, 1 John 2:15-17, 2 John 1:7-9, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, Ephesians 5:27-27, 1 John 4:1-5, Titus 2:11-13, Philippians 1:27
About the Rapture
The Bible teaches the imminent rapture of all born-again believers before the 7 year Tribulation Time. Since Christ’s ascension into heaven, Bible-believers have lived with the blessed hope and expectation of being taking away to heaven at any moment.
– 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, Romans 5:9
About the Future
The Bible teaches a real, physical resurrection from the dead. Those that rejected Christ will suffer everlasting judgment in a real lake of fire. Those that accepted Christ will rise to everlasting life in a real heaven.
– John 14:1-6, Luke 16:19-31, John 11:25-26, Revelation 20:12-21:27
